Blog Updates
So, I began this blog in 2008 for an electronic media class to post my awesome podcasts! I have not been keeping up with it really since then, but guess what?? I'm back to blogging for my Advertising class! I know, I know, everyone is so excited that I am back, because my blog is so interesting and all, and it's a must read "fo sho!" I look forward to continuously making updates related to my class, which is actually pretty interesting! I am also on twitter for that class and completely intrigued by it and the way it works, so feel free to follow me on there as well!

Podcast #3
This Podcast is about the history of the Writers Guild of America and what it is. I am not too happy with this podcast and honestly think it sucks for these reasons: 1) I did not export all of my video and did not realize that until it was too late and didn't have the camera to export the rest. 2) I used iMovie 8 for the first time and although I think it might be easier to use overall, I had problems doing certain things I had done in past podcasts with iMovie 6. 3) I think I could have made this podcast better than it is (even without the video I haven't exported) but I did not have the time to improve it due to a busy schedule outside of this class. I will definitely improve this piece on the history of the Writers Guild of America when I do my Final 15-20 minute podcast. I did learn a few new things in creating this podcast. I have never used slides before in my previous podcasts and I intend to use some slides in my final podcasts. Also, I used a transition at the end of the last slide which I had never thought to use. This podcast does seem choppy to me; I did not have enough b-roll or video to use three songs, but I was bored and just wanted to add music wherever I could to make the slides not so boring. I plan to add more video so the songs aren't back to back. I hope I explained enough of the history of the Writers Guild of America in the little video I had...and once again I will explain more in the final podcast. But overall, I am definitely more comfortable making and editing podcasts and I think the reason I am so unhappy with this podcast is because I know what I am capable of doing and what I could have done to make this podcast better.

Podcast #2
This second podcast was not as fun to create as my first podcast. But then again, it is educational. My topic is about the Writer Strike with a focus on residuals. Honestly, I hate being on camera and I wish I had more b-roll this time (so I could do more voiceovers). I definitely learned a valuable lesson creating this second podcast; constantly save your project. I also made the mistake of keeping the camera rolling while I was talking and that took so much more time to edit and was ultimately the cause of iMovie randomly shutting down on me (I had to delete so much and forgot to empty my trash every 30 minutes, it became overloaded) . I think I could have done a better job editing; this podcast seems a bit choppy. I know the lighting was not so great (I filmed at night...not a brilliant idea). Basically, there are a number of things I would like to change about this podcast and will change in the future.
Because this podcast had to be educational, I felt very limited and felt like no matter what, it would be extremely boring to watch . But overall I felt that I was able to get my point across and somewhat able to integrate some humor with the facts without losing the focus of residuals. Hopefully, I will be able to come up with some new ideas for my next podcast. I know I have definitely learned some harsh lessons from this one and will be able to avoid those problems next time. I have decided to do the 15-20 min podcast instead on the paper for my final project. Although I am a bit nervous about it, I think I will learn more and have more fun doing the podcast versus the paper.

Podcast #1
This was my first time creating a podcast and I learned a lot in the process. I improved my camera skills and learned new techniques. Using the tri-pod and getting my shots level was difficult at first, and making sure I had the shot I wanted was time consuming (that is why I ended up with a ton of b-roll). I have never edited video before and never used iMovie, therefore, I learned a number of things. I learned how to export my video to iMovie, split clips and delete pieces you don't want, have two audio streams and do voiceovers, import a song and sync it with clips, sync my video and audio, and in general make a movie out of all of my footage! Basically I just messed around with iMovie, pressed buttons here and there and learned a lot through trial and error, and hitting edit, undo many times.
I had a lot of fun creating my podcast and I think I made it more difficult than need be for my first time doing this! But I am very proud of what I have created and think it's entertaining and creative. There are a number of things I would change such as the transistions between clips, I would add more voiceovers and footage to the interviews so it is more entertaining, and I would probably mess with my intro even more. But I quickly learned how time consuming it is to make the smallest changes and I didn't want to risk messing anything else up. While shooting and editing my podcast, I decided to take "The Office" t.v. show approach and kept that in mind during the whole process. I interviewed some friends and co-workers and shot footage of me making a fool out of myself so I could insert those clips during some of my interviews. Overall, I had a lot of fun making this podcast and I learned more than I thought I would. I was hesitant about doing this project at first due to my lack of experience but now I am much more confident and look forward to making the next podcast.
